Fun Parks Galore - Universal Studios

August 1st 2008 06:08
Every year around 48 million tourists visit Orlando, and it’s not difficult to see why. With over 100 attractions, and sunshine that lasts all year there is never a bad time to go.
In my last post, I reviewed several of the Disney Parks. This time I will review Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and Sea World.

Universal Studios is a movie and TV based theme park that not only allows you to ride your favourite movies but also gives you a behind the scenes look at how some of the stunts are performed. This place is a bit less warm and fuzzy than the Magic Kingdom; but they have more heart stopping rides.

One of the highlights at Universal Studios is the Terminator 2 3D movie. The attraction is a must see for Terminator fans. It stars all the original actors from the Terminator movie, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, and Edward Furlong. Robert Patrick plays the T1000 robot whose body can morph into any shape.

After being ushered into the theatre and issued with your 3D glasses, you are treated to a 12-minute visual spectacular. It is scary, especially when the T1000 robots arms morphed into knives and started slashing at the audience; it is so real audience members were cowering in their seats. I took my glasses off, which probably spoils all the fun because then it just looks like a normal 2D movie, rather than having someone standing in front of you trying to slice you. I cannot understand why there have not been any 3D movies out for a while they are spectacular.

A great one for both you and the kids to see is Shrek 4D. For those who do not know what 4D is, it is a 3D movie with added dimension to help immerse the audience in the action. In this case, it meant sprays of water and air to make you feel part of the story. It is very funny and includes the voices of the original actors such as Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy.
There are a number of other great rides in this park, far too many to go into on this post, but Universal Studios was definitely my favourite park in terms activities.

Right next door to Universal Studios is the Islands of Adventure Park. This park has some of the most innovative thrill seeker rides ever, including some high-speed roller coasters. It is made up of five Islands named after well-known myths, legends, and comic book heroes. From late 2009 there will be a sixth island based on the Harry Potter series.

Some of the most exciting rides in the park are The Incredible Hulk, Jurassic Park River Adventures, and Duelling Dragons Rollercoaster. All the rides incorporate a story, such as when Dr David Banner’s experiment goes horribly wrong you must board the Incredible Hulk coaster, which will launch you out of the building at a speed that reaches 40km/h in two seconds.

Another popular theme Park in Orlando is Sea World. This park has everything from great marine life shows, rides, and chances to interact with the animals. The dolphin experience is amazing you can get right up close to them and touch them! Did you know that dolphin skin feels like rubber? The dolphins are quite clever they will only come up to you if you have bought food for them. If stingrays are your thing head over to Stingray Lagoon, where you can touch and pet a stingray. Give them a tickle believe it or not they love it! They are very slimy!

In terms of the shows, the Sea lion Show is a must do. It is hilarious both the human and animals are great; they poke fun at all the other attractions in the park.

There always needs to be something for the thrill seekers out there, and at Sea World it is the Kraken rollercoaster. Visitors to the park rave about this ride and some have claimed to have been on it 15 times in one day. I could not I would lose my lunch.
Orlando’s great climate means that it is warm and sunny all year round, so you do not have to go in the busy summer months.
