The London Eye

For the best view of London and the surrounding area, take a ride on the British Airways London Eye.
The Eye, which opened in March 2000, has quickly become one of the most popular tourist attractions in London, and it is not difficult to understand why. On a clear day, you can see for up to 25 miles.
The Eye consists of 32 glass capsules, attached to the outside of the wheel, to ensure unobstructed views of the surrounding area. Each capsule holds 25 people, and has a wooden bench to sit on if required. It takes 30 minutes to do a complete revolution.
The wheel does not stop turning even when people are getting off and on. It turns so slowly you hardly notice it moving.
If you can, try to take a night ride as well as a day ride. In my opinion, there is nothing more beautiful than looking down the river Thames on a clear night and seeing all the bright lights of the city.
The London Eye is located on the South Bank of the Thames near County Hall. The closest stations are Waterloo and Westminster.
The ticket office is in the County Hall Building. You can walk up and buy tickets but it is cheaper if you pre book. You can save 10% if you book online. Check out the London Eye website for more details. It is definitely worth booking ahead in the summer if you can as the queues can get quite long.
